Forensic Evaluations for Attorneys

Whether your practice is in the criminal court or family court, forensic evaluations are an important tool for defending your client effectively. As an LMHC licensed in the State of Washington and LPC in Oregon, I use recognized psychological tests to shed light upon legal matters.

For example, a domestic violence (DV) evaluation can determine whether intervention is needed or not. If the DV evaluation finds that intervention is necessary, I will also recommend the kind best suited to creating behavioral change in the accused perpetrator, while concurrently facilitating the victim’s safety. When your clients are referred for DV Treatment, it is necessary for the receiving facility to conduct a level of care (treatment) assessment to determine what level of treatment a person is best fit with. This is applicable in both Washington and Oregon.

Anger/aggression management evaluations likewise help guide the defense of someone who has been arrested for non-domestic violence related aggression. Depending on the findings of the evaluation, I will recommend appropriate anger management counseling.

After an offender has undergone several sessions of either domestic violence intervention or anger/aggression management, a no-contact order (NCO) evaluation may be the first step to modifying a no-contact order and rebuilding healthy relationships.

Finally, mental health evaluations serve a variety of functions. They may assess the need for treatment. They could provide information about an offender’s liability. Or they could reveal the state of mind at the time of the arrest triggering event.
